BARCELONA WINE WEEK: THE POBLE ESPANYOL OF WINE

BWW 2020 3

Barcelona Wine Week (February 3-5, 2020) has arrived for its maiden edition, and it’s doing so on a massive scale.

Wine lovers and connoisseurs are going to want to stop by the Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc Venue before this first-of-its-kind wine trade show closes up shop on Wednesday. With an area of 19.067 m2, the event venue offers a jaw-dropping amount of space that event organizers, Alimentaria Exhibitions, have set up and organized to perfection.

Upon entering and taking a “quick” stroll around, it immediately feels like you’re experiencing a Poble Espanyol dedicated to wine: you have wines, as well as cava and other cocktails and distilled beverages, from all over Spain; for anyone who isn’t familiar with Barcelona’s Poble Espanyol, it’s essentially Spain in miniature: the open-air architectural museum has replications of 117 buildings from 15 of the 17 autonomous communities of Spain.

At BWW, there are more than 550 wineries participating, including 40 Spanish Protected Designations of Origin, and all of them happily await your visit to their stands to serve you up a taste of their products. Catalonia is the autonomous region with the biggest presence at the fair, followed by Castille de León, La Rioja, Basque Country and Navarre.
