BARCELONA COFFEE AWARDS CELEBRATES 3RD AND BIGGEST EDITION YET

Over the weekend, BCN Coffee Guide and CoffeeXP hosted the third edition of the BCN Coffee Awards. This three-day event honored and highlighted the latest in the hospitality industry’s fastest-growing sector: specialty coffee. With Nau Bostik Cultural Center as the venue once again, the space was maximized in order to host the more than 50 coffee roasters, and around 10,000 attendees, and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful weekend for all involved to enjoy the caffeine-filled celebration.

The BCN Coffee Awards brings together the best of the best in terms of coffee roasters, baristas and professionals, and it’s the perfect opportunity for coffee enthusiasts to enjoy a plethora of specialty coffees, both from local and international roasters, as well as share their passion with the exhibitors. For anyone reading this who has never attended the awards, once you’ve paid for your entrance to the event, you can drink as many different coffee brews as you can handle. There was also a variety of food trucks to offer up some good eats, both savory and sweet, to pair with your expertly-made cup of joe.

As you would expect given the event’s name, the BCN Coffee Awards involves competition, some of which could be viewed live by those in attendance, including the Best Barista competition, which was won by Santiago Andrés from Sotaque Café. It also featured two national competitions from the Spanish Coffee Association: the Spanish Latte Art Championship and Spanish Cup Taster Championship; the winners will go on to compete at the World Championships of their respective events. Find the full list of winners from the 2024 Awards below.

On top of a constant V60 drip, the Coffee Awards included expert-led coffee cuppings, panel discussions, virtual reality activities, coffee workshops, and more. It even had an area for event goers to get tattoos, manicures, and haircuts, as well as tarot readings. All of this, and the event is kid and pet friendly!

One thing the BCN Coffee Awards continues to prove year after year is that Barcelona boasts a strong specialty coffee scene, and it’s only getting stronger. The above-listed roasters, cafés and eateries are just a handful of what is on offer in the Catalan capital. Chances are you don’t have to look too far to find a spot near you, whether you’re visiting for a few days or happen to live here!

After having consumed what most would consider too much coffee these last few days, we are already looking forward to next years’ awards! Hopefully we will see you there!
